Latest Obsession: Hyaluronic Acid.

Hyaluronic Acid | The Fig's Heart.

I’ve paired up with Viva Health Skincare to tell you about one of my favourite skincare ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid! I talk about dewy skin all the time so it’s no surprise that I’m a big fan of the one ingredient known to hydrate and plump the skin best. Viva Health Skincare is a local Canadian brand (from right here in Vancouver) that I’m super excited about! They make high quality all-natural products and today I’ll be sharing three of their top selling products made with the magic ingredient of hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid is found in the body naturally and is responsible for maintaining the moisture in the top layers of the skin. It keeps these layers fresh and plump, resulting in a youthful glow. When we’re younger our skin produces this in abundance, but as we age our ability to produce it dramatically decreases. Hyaluronic acid encourages the skin to retain it’s natural moisture levels while attracting external hydration and drawing it into the skin. It is capable of absorbing up to 1000 times its weight in water and naturally stimulates the production of collagen. Using it topically will help to plump out fine lines and soften the appearance of the skin creating a wonderful glow.

The Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum is my favourite product from Viva Health Skincare. It works great on it’s own and it’s also great to boost the effectiveness of other products. I’ve been mixing it with my other facial oils and serums in the morning/evening before applying moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid actually draws moisture into the skin to provide all-day hydration. If you apply this before your moisturizer it will keep the water in your moisturizer on your skin longer (preventing it from evaporating off the surface). This allows your skin to heal quicker and prevents bacteria from reaching the cells which creates future blemishes. I’ve also been adding a few drops to my face masks to boost their effectiveness and really draw all the nutrients into my skin. This serum is a perfect little staple to keep on hand at all times. Simple and so effective.

It has a very thin (almost watery) texture that absorbs into the skin instantly (see above photo, I have a drop on the back of my hand). It’s 100% all natural, cruelty-free, vegan, and gluten-free. The hyaluronic acid is sourced from a vegetable (similar to a wild yam). The price point is very reasonable ($43.99 for 15ml) considering a little bit goes a long way! Nicely done.

The Amaze Exfoliating Gel is super unique and fun to use! Massage this onto clean dry skin and watch as your dead skin cells buff away before your eyes. Yeah, sounds a little gross (see my hand exfoliating above). I kept rubbing until the gel basically just dried away and disappeared and all I was left with was some balled up gel and skin cells. Rinse with a nice luke warm muslin cloth to remove any remaining product and you’ll be left with smooth and incredibly soft skin.

The gel is very gentle and it’s formulated to treat blackheads, rosacea, acne, and blocked pores while also minimizing visible age spots, scarring, and fine lines. Along with hyaluronic acid it’s also made with ingredients like ginseng and aloe vera to heal, calm, and repair damaged skin.

After your skin is silky smooth and clean, give it a little spritz of toner and then apply the Collagen Hyaluronic Acid Mask. This sheet mask is by far the best all-natural sheet mask I’ve ever used. The design alone is genius, it actually wraps around your ears to keep it pressed firmly against the skin so you absorb the maximum amount of hydration. It also includes a neck flap so the treatment soaks into the full face and neck (very important). Yes, it looks a little like Hannibal Lecter, but it’s all worth it.

The sheet is soaked in the pure hyaluronic acid serum mentioned above along with vitamin b5, plant sourced collagen, and patchouli essential oil. It’s deeply hydrating and softening and really soothes and brightens the skin. Leave on for 20-30 minutes and then gently rinse face and discard of the mask. Apply your toner and moisturizer as normal. I didn’t wear any makeup for the rest of the day after wearing this mask, I was really pleased with how my skin looked. I did it on a day I wasn’t working but I still did errands around town and couldn’t believe how hydrated my skin felt by the end of the day. This is a special-day kind of mask people! Such a treat for the skin, wow.

Have you tried anything from Viva Health Skincare? So many of their products are made with hyaluronic acid! What are your favourite skin-plumping products?

  • Jen

Ohhh interesting! I don’t think I’ve used anything with hyaluronic acid, but as it sounded quite scary I don’t think I’ve looked out for it. It sounds right up my street! Not sure if Viva Skincare ship to the UK, but I’d love to give them a go if I can track them down. p.s. love your pics as always! :)

    • Oh Jen, it’s a miracle worker! I agree, the name “acid” makes it sounds pretty harsh but it’s natural and gentle and a complete skin-changer. I don’t know that they ship outside North America, but you guys have a ton of great brands in the UK that would use it! xo
