It’s been a whirlwind of a week around here. How are you guys doing? I’m preparing for Christine‘s wedding this weekend, working on a few new projects (!!), and getting ready to move in a couple weeks. Today I’m sharing another summer smoothie recipe that I’ve been enjoying lately. I decided to have an offline morning the other day and finally had a chance to read through some of my new Darling Magazine that the girls at work bought me for my birthday. Have you read Darling before? They’re an extremely talented and honest group of women redefining beauty and promoting self worth through untouched photos and educational/inspirational essays and articles. I’m a pretty big fan.

But back to my smoothie. As always, I like to pair ingredients together that give me energy throughout the day and help promote that inner glow. Here’s why I picked the star ingredients for this smoothie:

Matcha– This superfood has the most unique ability to keep you alert and present while also calming the mind and promoting a positive mood. The vibrant green colour comes from it’s rich source of chlorophyll (a powerful detoxifier that eliminates chemicals from the body). It’s also one of the highest sources of antioxidants and we know how much our skin loves those!

Avocado– You really can’t go wrong with this guy. The monounsaturated (good) fats in avocado help to maintain good moisture levels in the skin that give it that soft, healthy, and plump look. They’re also rich in omega-9s which help reduce skin redness and irritations.

Pea Shoots– I’ve been loading up on these lately! They are incredibly high in Vitamins A & C, folic acid, and antioxidants. They’re an ideal source in fiber, anti-inflammatory, and known to maintain cell health and protect against DNA damage. Plus they just blend right into the smoothie without anybody noticing.

1/2 avocado
1/2 cup frozen banana or mango
1 tsp matcha powder
handful fresh pea shoots
handful fresh spinach
1/4 cup organic rolled oats
1 cup almond milk

Blend all ingredients together until smooth. Top with chia seeds, bee pollen, etc.

  • This looks amazing! What a pretty shade of green :) I’ve never put oats in my smoothie before -how is the texture of the smoothie? I definitely want to try. And so excited that you got Darling Magazine, it’s so nice isn’t it?!

    • Awww thanks Naomi! I’m so glad I finally got a hard copy of Darling Magazine. I know you’re a big fan…and for good reason. They’re amazing! I would love to work with a team of people like that!
      I’ve been putting oats in almost all my smoothies lately, I love the extra fiber it gives. They ground up pretty well so it doesn’t change the texture too drastically. Makes it thicker and a tad grittier…? Give it a try ;) Sending big hugs!
