Hawaii 2014 (Part 2).

We started the second week by renting a car and spending a couple days driving to the East and North shores of Oahu. It was really nice to get out of the city and experience more of Hawaii. I was so excited to do some Hawaiian highway driving! I’ve always imagined driving along these epic cliffs with salty wind in my hair. When we first started out I was a little bummed because the highways looked pretty much like they did at home, with a couple extra palm trees along the way. Then we got to the Halona Blow Hole and my dreams of Hawaiian highway driving came true…

Next stop was Koko Head Crater. We hiked up the mountainside at the Makapu’u Lighthouse and got an amazing view of Makapu’u and Rabbit Island. The water was so beautiful!

Lanikai Beach was our final stop that day. People come from all over the world to feel the silky white sand of this beach. It’s amazing! The water is so clear and the sand is incredibly soft. You can rent paddle boards or kayaks and go out to the pair of islands that are right off shore (Mokulua Islands).

Fast forward to the next morning and we took off again heading North…first stop: Pali Highway Lookout.

We hit a few other beaches along the way (Chinaman’s Hat shown below) before getting to Kualoa Ranch. Aka: Jurassic Park! Woo!

We tried to do some cliff jumping at Waimea Bay but it was closed, boo. Once we hit the North Shore we kept our eyes out for one of the most popular places to eat…Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck. When we found it, Kent and I were a little mortified but crossed our fingers and tried it anyways. Surprisingly, it was pretty good! I would definitely recommend renting a car and exploring the rest of Oahu if you visit Hawaii. Well worth it. We got to drive by the Dole Pineapple plantation on the way back which was pretty neat. Pineapples as far as the eye can see.

Kent and I went parasailing when we got back to Waikiki! It was so awesome to see the beach from this view.

It was almost the end of the trip and we still hadn’t climbed Diamond Head yet, so this was a must. We left the apartment at about 5:00 am to be at the top for sunrise. It was totally worth it. If we had done this sooner in the trip, I probably would have done it a second time.

Our last day was spent getting everything done that we hadn’t by now. I wanted to relax and listen to live Hawiian music so we went to a lovely beachfront restaurant called House Without A Key. I am in love with Hawaiian music now! We also had to stop at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel to get a Mai Tai from their famous Mai Tai bar before we left. They had an amazing fire show going on which I don’t have any photos of, but it was so cool.

The morning we had to leave the land of pineapples was a sad one…but we caught the sunset on the plane ride home and it was a beautiful way to say goodbye (for now).
