After watching the Oscars last Sunday, I remembered that The Grand Budapest Hotel is coming out soon! I’ve been waiting for this day since I heard the news in early 2013. I’m not a movie buff by any means (don’t be fooled by the fact that I watched the Oscars. I had only actually seen two of the movies that were nominated for anything and mainly watched it because Ellen Degeneres was hosting). However, when Wes Anderson writes and directs a movie, I will buy tickets in advance, stand in line at the theatre, and get the best seat in the house on opening night. He is a genius. Watching this films is like going to an art gallery.
Wes Anderson makes the most stunning films, it’s like watching artwork. The colour palettes, the backdrops, the centered framing, the quirky characters, every single scene is thought out to perfection.
Anderson’s films are also known for the reoccurring cast members (including Adrien Brody who I am in love with), dysfunctional families, odd romances, slow motion scenes, and deadpan delivery. If you haven’t seen any of his films you should start with: The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited (favourite), Moonrise Kingdom, The Life Aquatic, and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
The Grand Budapest Hotel is an adventure of friendship between a legendary concierge and his lobby boy who soon becomes his trusted protégé. It is set in a famous European hotel between the wars. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting, the battle for an enormous family fortune, and the hopeless illogic romance of two young loves. I am so excited! Check out the official trailer here and see what influenced Wes Anderson for the film here.
What do you think, are you a Wes Anderson fan? Will you go to the movies to see this one?
The release date is set for March 14th so be sure to check out your local theatre for showings!
