Lavender-Berry Smoothie | The Fig's Heart.

I shared this photo on Instagram yesterday and so many of you were curious about using lavender so I thought I would share the recipe with you! Depending on where you live, you should be able to find edible lavender buds at health food stores, holistic/herb dispensaries, or specialty tea shops. Just like you would steep the flowers in your tea, you can also put the whole buds into any recipe (cookies, smoothies, breads, ice cream). They add a very subtle and sweet flavour that pairs nicely with a variety of other flavours. I find raspberries and blackberries go nicely with lavender, which is what I’ve used for my smoothie. Honey, rosemary, black current, lemon, plum, and ricotta are also very popular pairings.

Lavender-Berry Smoothie:

1/2 banana (can be frozen)
3/4 cup frozen raspberries
1/4 avocado
greens of choice: kale, spinach, sprouts, etc.
3/4 tsp dried lavender buds
1 cup almond milk or coconut water

Blend together until smooth.

For mornings that take longer than normal to wake up, I like to make little adjustments to this recipe for some extra energy! I’ll add almond butter, hemp hearts, or a plant-based protein powder. I also like to switch the almond milk for pure cranberry juice sometimes to make a really tart/sour smoothie. Or swap the lavender buds for mint leaves to really wake myself up! Play around until you find something that works best for you.
