Hortus Botanicus, Amsterdam.

This was the hidden gem of my weekend in Amsterdam. One of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, the Hortus Botanicus is a place I would buy a season pass to if I lived in this city. The historical greenhouses are an architectural dream (pictured below). This secret sanctuary started as a medical herb garden in 1638 and now provides three acres of forest bathing in lush greenery right in the heart of downtown Amsterdam.

It is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the word. Housing a beautiful butterfly garden, a palm house, a cactus room, a three-climate greenhouse, and several other green wonders. People visit the Hortus to study plants, to admire the natural beauty, and simply to escape the city for a walk through the grounds. There’s a beautiful cafe with an organic menu if you fancy lunch on the terrace, how dreamy. The palm house is a room I have on my list of favourite rooms around the globe. Highly recommend.
