As soon as I knew I was going to be travelling to Hawaii I started google searching Spas. When I came across The Abhasa Spa at The Royal Hawaiian I decided this would be the spa I would try on the trip. It’s located right on Waikiki beach in the most beautiful pink palace surrounded by tropical gardens. Each treatment comes with fresh tropical snacks, access to their private hot tub/steam room, and a complimentary yoga class on the beach. Need I say more?
They have lovely indoor treatment rooms but you’re also given the option of having your service outside in one of their private cabanas. There was a very strict no electronics rule for the Spa but I called ahead and asked if I could come before the Spa opened to snap a few photos for the blog. I had to share this beautiful space with you, it’s truly exquisite. The girls were more than happy to let me do this and made my whole experience incredibly enjoyable. They served freshly pressed guava juice and used all natural products (beautifully displayed in the photo below) during each of the treatments. As a guest, you are given the option of attending one of their complimentary morning yoga classes on Waikiki beach throughout the week (Tuesdays/Thursdays). I thought that was a really nice touch to the whole experience.
When it came to picking a treatment from their menu I had a hard time deciding. I love facials but I really wanted to try a traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage while I was in Hawaii. I opted for the Lomi Lomi treatment and added the deluxe scalp massage/tropical hair mask to my service. I chose to have my treatment done in one of the private cabanas in their outdoor gardens. I spent the morning in Hawaiian heaven, truly. It was a gorgeous day and having the treatment outside was such a unique experience. There was a lovely warm breeze throughout the massage. I went nice and early so it wasn’t too hot outside yet. If you’re going to have an outdoor treatment and it’s a scorcher day, make your appointment early so it’s not too hot.
The treatment began with a gentle exfoliating Hawaiian sea salt foot polish. The massage was an elegant series of rhythmic strokes to invigorate and stimulate the mind and body. The therapist was very mindful and made sure the pressure was suitable to my preferences. I was in complete bliss. Ending the treatment with a scalp massage and hydrating hair mask was just icing on top of this serene experience. She used all natural products from Ola (a tropical apothecary brand made in Hawaii) and organic coconut oil for the massage. Organic hair products from John Masters were used for the scalp massage and hydrating hair treatment.
After my service I used the private hot tub and steam room in the woman’s lounge. I’m never ready to leave the spa right after a massage, it always takes me a while to snap back into reality (and normal human functioning). Having the lounge to relax was much appreciated. They have fully equipped showers, hair dryers, and everything else you need to get ready before continuing on with your day. I felt very comfortable and clean using their facilities. I recommend giving yourself extra time before/after your treatment to really relax and enjoy the beautiful space they offer. The spa is located right in the heart of busy Waikiki but it’s a true escape from the city. I felt like a real Hawaiian princess during my visit and I will without a doubt return during my next trip to Hawaii.
Big aloha to the staff at Abhasa Spa! Thank you, thank you!
