Over the past few months my skin has had a big improvement in terms of brightness, smoothness, and even skin tone. I still get some normal breakouts and blemishes but I definitely feel as though I have a little more control over this. After my last facial, my lovely aesthetician Blair told me that my skin was in the best condition she has seen since I started routine facials with her a year ago. To me, that is one of the best complements ever. So what’s my secret? I’ve been using honey!
Raw honey is a humectant, attracting and retaining moisture to your skin. Honey also contains flavanoids and antioxidants that work as antibacterial agents making it great for oily and acne prone skin but gentle enough for sensitive skin. Honey is full of nutrients and live enzymes and has such great healing powers. I have been using both pure honey and products made with honey every day since my trip to Hawaii and I am so happy with the way my skin has transformed. Here are a few of my favourite honey-based products…
Antipodes Juliet Skin-Brightening Cleanser. This gel cleanser is made with naturally exfoliating New Zealand kiwi fruit, vibrant hibiscus flowers, antibacterial Manuka honey, and antioxidant-packed Vinanza grapes. The combination of these ingredients helps to reduce and balance oil production to reveal a healthy glow. It’s lightly scented with green apples and cardamom….mmm so heavenly! I use this in the mornings for a gentle and fresh start to the day. I think Antipodes is a wonderful brand and I use a few other products from their line. I’ve enjoyed this cleanser but when it’s finished I don’t know that I would repurchase it. It’s not the cleanser, it’s me. I’m in love with something else…
Leahlani Skincare Honey Love Microdermabrasion. This one has my heart. After using this 3-in-1 (cleanser, mask, and exfoliant) for the past 2 months, I don’t know that I will ever be able to wash my face with anything else again. For real. You all know my love for Leahlani Skincare runs deep and this product is possibly her greatest creation. “My blend of essential oils, vitamin C & E, organic flower powders (hibiscus, lavender, and chamomile) and 100% raw and organic hawaiian honey made from Hawaiian Island bees will transform your skin, and leave you with a soft and dewy complexion.” I use this nightly and mix it with a little bit of the Wedderspoon Raw Manuka Honey. I massage it into my face for at least a minute and then let it sit there for another 5-10 minutes before washing it off. The smell instantly puts me in a trance, it’s so relaxing. I am so thankful for this product and highly recommend trying it if you’re looking for a brighter, smoother, and more balanced complexion.
Wedderspoon Gold 100% Raw Organic Manuka Honey. This honey is sourced from remote areas of New Zealand and tested for perfection. Every batch is tested for a high pollen count, live enzymes, antioxidants and various phytochemical components. This is the perfect product to use alone as a face mask or add to your daily cleanser for extra nourishment. Of course you can also put this incredible honey in your cup of tea, in your baking, in your hair…the list goes on. You can pick it up at most health food stores or order it online. It might look a little pricey for a jar of honey but I promise it’s worth it. You would never find a jar of luxury face cream for this price…and that’s exactly what it is.
Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm. This lip balm is designed for very dry and chapped lips. It’s made with honey, shea butter, almond oil, and other nourishing ingredients. I find the formula a little bit sticky, so I usually save this one for the Winter months and use it before I go to bed. It comes in a gorgeous glass container and smells absolutely divine. This product is so popular in the beauty world and so many people swear by it. I might be the only one who doesn’t go crazy for it.
Lush Honey I Washed The Kids Soap. This has been a favourite of mine for many many years. The smell is an irresistible honey and caramel combination that fills up the whole bathroom with sweetness. It really hydrates and conditions your skin. Made with real Canadian honey and beeswax and safe for sensitive skin types. I guarantee you will love this!
