Hi Beauties! Can you believe it’s June already? It was the full moon on Tuesday night, the Strawberry Moon. Take a minute to let go of anything you don’t need to bring into the month with you.
Today I’m excited to talk about oil/balm cleansers. Since the start of the year I’ve fully switched over to using oil based cleansers to remove all of my makeup (also known as step #1 in the double cleansing method). I’ve been able to try out quite a few different formulas and I’m more than happy with the results. Before any of you oily-skin readers skip to the next post because you think this one isn’t for you, it is! I have combination skin with an oily T-zone and I can tell you first hand that cleansing with oil will only help your situation. This trend started late last year and more recently it’s really taken off in the skincare world. Almost every company is coming out with some sort of cleansing oil now.
I used to rely on the holy-grail Bioderma Sensibio H2O for all my makeup removal, along with pretty much every single beauty blogger out there. But I haven’t used it since my switch to oil cleansers and I don’t miss it at all. My favourite oil cleanser so far is my most recent purchase…the One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil. A tropical papaya enzyme oil with Vitamin B that works flawlessly. From the easy-to-use pump to the incredible smell, this product is one that I would purchase by the gallon because I know I will continue to use it day after day.
Start with dry skin (full face of makeup). Warm the oil between your palms and rub directly onto your skin (sounds scary, but after a few times it feels completely normal!). Gently massage into all the nooks and crannies of your face, I like to give myself a good massage with the oil. Spend a few minutes if you can and really allow the oil to absorb all the dirt and grime from the day. Use a muslin cloth to gently rinse the oil and makeup off your skin, you should find they wipe off quite easily. Now that your makeup and any other pollutants from the day have been removed, go in with your cleanser to thoroughly clean your skin. Using an oil as apposed to cleansing water/facial wipes/etc will leave your skin hydrated, smooth, and balanced. Oil attracts oil, letting it sit on your skin for a minute or two will allow it to cling to all the dirt and “bad” oil on the surface, taking it away when you wash it off.
I received the Skin + Tonic Steam Clean from Annabel during the Christmas Green-Beauty Swap last year. This British favourite works brilliantly! They suggest massaging it into the skin and then placing a hot cloth over the face for one minute to literally “steam clean” all the grime from the surface of the skin. It smells of mint and eucalyptus and it works wonders! I’m really impressed with this product, if it was easier to get a hold of here in Canada I would definitely give it a repurchase.
Another favourite of mine is the Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser. This is a balm formula, which is basically a solid that just needs to be warmed with the hands to turn into a silky smooth oil. This luxurious blend is made with antioxidant rich carrots and calendula, decongesting rosemary, soothing lavender and chamomile, hydrating jojoba, and beeswax. Mmmm, so good.
The Melvita Milky Cleansing Oil was actually the first oil cleanser I ever tried. It has a lovely rose scent and it’s made with a blend of apricot, rose hip, and jojoba oil. This is a great staring product because the price point is a bit lower than some of the others. It doesn’t have as many of the fancy ingredients, but it does the trick.
The much anticipated Leahlani Skincare Bless Beauty Balm is being launched later this summer with a few other new products. I had the pleasure of testing out this multi-purpose balm last month and it’s a great cleansing option for those of you with sensitive or dry skin. The balm is made without wax, water, or fillers/emulsifiers so it’s a beautiful option for the face. It’s very gentle and like all of Leah’s products it smells divine. Scented with neroli and blue tansy essential oils and silky smooth from moringa and argan oil, shea butter, and orchid extract. Perfect gift often!
