Spring officially starts next week! Today I’m sharing a fresh Spring look for the true minimalist. It’s something I wear on a daily basis to work, etc. It’s a great no-makeup makeup look that can easily be paired with a bright lipstick or a splash of colour on the eyes. As the skin is the main feature to this look, the skincare products used are just as important as the makeup itself. I’ve tried to create a healthy Spring glow for those of us coming out of Winter that haven’t seen much sun in the last few months. Rather than using bronzers/contours and blush I’ve focused more on highlighters and illuminators.
Hydrating Skincare: I wanted to really plump up the skin to create a hydrated look without becoming too shiny or oily. These are a few of the products I always rely on…
Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser. This balm/oil cleanser is great at removing all makeup and prepping the skin to be properly cleansed while proving great hydration.
Tata Harper Floral Essence. I’ve raved about this one many times. It can be used in your regular routine as a toner as well as used throughout the day (over makeup) to maintain that hydration. It’s made with natural humectants that draw water deep into the skin cells.
Eminence Organics Citrus + Kale Serum. This is a new addition to my routine and I’m really impressed with it. It’s a fast absorbing serum with a high level of stable vitamin C. It reduces inflammation and redness, hydrates/plumps the skin, and prevents sign of aging. I’m putting together a more detailed post that I’ll publish in the next few weeks (along with the face mask it comes with!).
Sisley Paris Flower Gel Mask. Whenever I go into department stores that carry my favourite brands I pick up a few samples to keep for later. This face mask is a complete game-changer and I always save it for special occasions. It works best if applied before bed the night before your event and left on while you sleep. You’ll wake up looking like sleeping beauty, guaranteed! Other favourite face masks to get that glowing Spring skin: Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask, Leahlani Skincare Mermaid Mask, and Eminence Organics Strawberry-Rhubarb Masque.
Fresh Makeup: The key to this look is to make it look like you haven’t spent any time applying makeup but naturally look healthy, balanced, and hydrated. I know some of you are going to ask about my eyelashes. I’ve been getting eyelash extensions applied for the last few months so I haven’t worn any mascara at all during this time (I know, total cheater!). It makes my morning routine incredibly quick and easy. That being said, to create this look with mascara I would make sure to brush through your lashes really well after applying the mascara to make sure there are no clumps and it’s very natural looking. You could also use a clear mascara to get that androgynous look that seems to be on all the runways lately.
Sappho Cosmetics Liquid Foundation. I’m completely hooked. This foundation is great because it’s so build-able. I like to wear it really sheer more like a tinted moisturizer but you can definitely wear it like a medium coverage foundation and add more to spots/blemish prone areas. It’s super hydrating and healing but also made with ingredients like tea tree oil to get rid of any bacteria that builds up on the skin throughout the day. Brilliant.
Jane Iredale Active Light Concealer. I wrote about this a couple weeks ago. This light-reflector works great under the eyes to conceal dark circles as well as over top blemishes. It also acts as a highlighter and can be used on the inner corners of the eyes and under the brows to help with that naturally radiant look.
RMS Living Luminizer. Finally! I don’t know how I got by without this for so long. I picked up the living luminizer during my last trip to Vancouver and haven’t spent a day without it since. For someone like me who’s obsessed with the dewy skin look, this is a must have. Must have! I use it under the outer ends of the brows, along the cheek bones, on the cupid’s bow above the lip, and down the bridge of the nose. Use very sparingly, a little goes a long way with this stuff and you don’t want to be overly glowing.
Herbivore Botanicals Lip Butter. Like I mentioned above, this look could be paired with a lovely pink lipstick or something more bold for those of you who enjoy wearing more colour. I’ve stuck with something really simple. I chose this lip balm because it’s incredibly hydrating, smells delicious, and just enhances the natural colour of your lips enough to make it look like your wearing a sheer nude.
Make sure to keep this look fresh all day by spraying a hydrating mist right over top of your makeup. Keep a little bottle at your desk or in your purse so you remember to hydrate on your breaks!
Happy Spring everyone! What are your favourite Spring products?
