Summer Shiigi is a designer, stylist, writer, and fashion lover living in Honolulu, Hawaii. I came across her blog at the start of the year and instantly fell in love with her style. I contacted her before my trip to the Hawaiian Islands and she was kind enough to meet me, so exciting! She had recently returned from New York Fashion Week and let me check out her city-essentials from the biggest fashion event of the year. She also let me peek around her studio and get a feel of what a week in her shoes is like.
Summer went with Lei Chic of Honolulu Magazine to cover shows at NYFW including: Fashion Shenzhen, Marc and Estel, Crown by Colin King, and others. She actually got to shadow Lynne O’neill for the Vivienne Tam show and has a great article about her experience up on her blog. You can read her fashion week diaries in Honolulu Magazine here for full details on the shows.
Although she was going for business, she also had an agenda of her own: people watching, some serious shopping, and a few must-try restaurants around the city. This wasn’t her first time to NYFW, so she knew what she needed to pack to have a successful trip with minimal sleep…
Marc by Marc Jacobs Bag. Holds everything, fashionable and versatile, easy to wear.
iPhone. “This is your ticket.” For real, everything is digital these days so you have to show your invites through your phone to get access into the tents and backstage, etc.
Canon Rebel T3i. Takes awesome photos, easy to carry around. The perfect tool for bloggers.
Refinery 29 Notebook. I love the quote on the front, so fitting. “A lot of people just record things now or keep notes on their phones, but I’m still kind of old school, I would rather write it down on paper.” I totally agree with Summer!
Aloha cosmetic bag, made in Hawaii. “I love bringing a little piece of home with me wherever I go.” In here I keep my Blistex chapstick because I get really dry lips. I also carry hand sanitizer, hair pins, my custom cast shark tooth necklace by Misha Hawaii, a MAC lipstick, and the ultimate no-sleep product: Obagi Elastiderm Under Eye Serum with 2% Caffeine. It’s pricey, but a total life saver for days when you’re running off 3 hours of sleep. It reduces any puffiness, smoothes out lines, and brightens your whole face. This sounds amazing, I think I might need to pick one of these up!
MAC Amplified Lipstick in Girl About Town. How perfect is the name of this bright pink lipstick? I love it.
Summer was so lovely, it was such a pleasure to chat with her about fashion, Hawaii, and life. She designs her own ready to wear Womens line called Ten Tomorrow. The online boutique is coming soon! She gave me a copy of her look-book to check out and it’s gorgeous! I also got to take one of her tops home and I am so in love with it. I’m really excited for her, this girl is so talented and truly passionate about what she does.
When she isn’t working on her own line, you can find Summer in her studio at The Cut Collective working with four other local designers. Here they work together with local companies to design Made in Hawaii garments. She also writes a beautiful fashion blog full of outfit ideas and style wisdom. In any other spare time you might find her doing trunk shows, photographing and styling fashion shows, or relaxing at the beach. Such an inspiration!
